H.M.S. Tyne was the former S. S. Mariotis, purchased on the stocks 8 March, 1878. She served as a depot ship for the Eighth Destroyer Flotilla in the Firth of Forth during the Great War.

Service

Commissioned at Chatham on 18 June, 1878.[6]

Commissioned at Chatham on 7 September, 1888.[7]

Re-commissioned at Devonport on 15 March, 1910.[8]

Re-commissioned at Devonport on 1 May, 1912.[9]

She served as a depot ship for torpedo boats. After the war, she served as depot ship for the Twenty-second Minesweeping Flotilla off the coast of Norway. In November 1919 she returned to Sheerness to pay off, soon to be placed on a list for disposal.[10]
